Illustrator: Yuyi Morales

Publisher: Neal Porter Books, 2018

Publisher’s recommended age: 4+

This is Yuyi Morales as author-illustrator and it is stupendous. The illustrations are gorgeous and the story is an honest, moving, inspiring and beautiful take on the experience of refugee migration, including a celebration of the role books and libraries can play in creating safe spaces. The story is grounded in the experience of Mexican refugees and draws on Yuyi’s own immigration story, but it has broad significance.
