The Book Initiative began in Florence, Italy, in the summer of 2020 with a group of parents grappling with the challenges of raising anti-racist children in a culture where racism is rarely acknowledged as a local problem. We started with plans for a grassroots project to diversify the bookshelves of our local libraries but were quickly inspired to do more. Now we are making connections with others in Florence, in Italy, and around the world to strengthen our network and multiply our possibilities to make change.
