More about our project
The creators of this timely e-resource grew up with Asian-American identities. Each of them had experiences with anti-Asian racism and xenophobia. And each has memories of how confused, shocked, unwanted, and lonely it made them feel.
Their hope is that this online book will prompt conversations about anti-Asian racism. They want it to empower communities and provide tools for those caring for Asian-American children.
When The Book Initiative discovered Young, Proud, and Sung-Jee, we immediately contacted the authors. We wanted to create a version in Italian for our local communities. Acts of anti-Asian racism had seen a significant increase in the early weeks and months of 2020 due to COVID-19.
This book directly introduces an incident of anti-Asian racism related to that and promotes a positive response. We recognized its ability to start difficult conversations about racism, stereotypes, and standing up for others. The Book Initiative partnered with translator Eleonora Gallitelli to make this important online resource available in Italian.
We are currently developing resources for parents and other caregivers to use with children. If you are interested in receiving updates send us a message.
