The Hello, Goodbye Window honors the special, playful relationship between grandparents and grandchild. The kitchen window at Nanna and Poppy's house is, for one child, a magic gateway. Everything important happens near it, through it, or beyond it. Juster clearly 'gets' how kids think and what they notice about their surroundings and Raschka's vibrant illustrations are a perfect fit for the text. Young readers will recognize their own favorite family rituals and any child can see themselves reflected in the bi-racial, bi-cultural family. The world will soon grow larger and more complex, but never more enchanting or deeply felt.
