Ada Twist, Scientist

Author: Andrea Beaty

Illustrator: David Roberts

Publisher: Abrams Books for Young Readers, 2016

Publisher’s recommended age: 5+

Ada diligently applies her fledgling scientific prowess to advance her understanding of the world. A book that champions girl power and women scientists, and brings welcome diversity to picture books about girls in science, it also encourages supportive parenting: Ada’s family lives with her questions and messes without squashing her curiosity and her love of answering questions about the unknown. With its rhyming text and wonderfully detailed illustrations, this is a delightful book that challenges stereotypes (gender and race) and encourages kids (and parents) to think, question, apply scientific reasoning, and follow their dreams.
